Transition Town Totnes Food Shed Project
The Transition Town Movement—which began in Totnes, England in 2005—is a collection of local initiatives that aim to strengthen local economies, reduce environmental impact, spark entrepreneurship, reimagine work, and weave webs of connection and support within communities. Major principals of the movement include respecting resource limits, promoting inclusivity and social justice, paying attention to balance, sharing ideas and power, collaborating, and fostering positive creativity.
In 2017 I helped establish the Transition Town Totnes Food Shed—a non-profit cooperative aiming to supply affordable, sustainable, good quality food to people living in and around Totnes. Located at the Daisy Play Centre, the Food Shed is a weekly collection hub where customers can pre-order their food online to support local food producers—a mix between a weekly veg box, and the flexibility of purchasing food at the farmers market.
